ceylon sonata
by adagio teas
(49 reviews)Ceylon Sonata is a classic black tea from Sri Lanka. In colonial times, this island nation was known as Ceylon. This name is still used to describe all teas grown here. Ceylon tea is bright and lively, medium-bodied and delightfully tangy. Our Ceylon Sonata hails from the renowned Kenilworth Estate, located in Sri Lanka's Kandy region. Fresh, citrusy aroma, sweet juicy notes like mandarin peel or grapefruit, refreshing texture and balanced astringency. The perfect afternoon tea. Steep at 212°F for 3-5 minutes

This tea blend is perfect for the rainy days when you sit in your cozy home and admire the weather.

I'm not a fan of black tea, I find it to typically be too bitter and astringent, so I steep it very lightly. I actually make it quite weak by then pouring it over ice for a pitcher of iced tea.

Like most pure blacks, this tea reminds me of honey. It isn't bitter at all with a slight astringency.

I like the smoothness of ceylon teas over other black teas in a lot of cases; this one is pretty good, but I have had another from elsewhere that is a little sweeter and smoother.

Classic basic black tea. I tend to blend it with other teas as well as it is a good base for mixing.

I steeped it at 212 and for three minutes as recommended but found it incredibly astringent. It was okay, but some sips were just so bitter and astringent that I'd probably need to adjust the temperature or steep time to get it where I want it.

A good, plain black tea. I like to brew this at a lower temperature, to tone down the bitterness.

One of my favorite plain black teas. Great hot or cold-brewed. It's a staple in my tea stash. Love it!! Always smooth and very flavorful.

This is a tasty black tea that is simple in flavor and profile. I recommend it! I steeped at 200 degrees for 2-1/2 minutes and got an extra 3-minute cup as well.

This tea is bright and crisp, a little bit citrusy and slightly earthy. I feel it's a bit neutral in the best way -- it would be an excellent backdrop to any flavors you wanted to add. Cream & sugar, honey & lemon... and it's still good on its own, too.

I gotta say, there is nothing bad about this tea. Its straight fowards, smooth and flavorful

Reviews say basic tea, BUT This is a Damn Good Basic cup of tea. Good is good, no matter how you look at it. This tea is brisk, semi bold and nice black tea with a fun kick of caffeine to it. I try this tea black with sweetener and steep 3 minutes. 1 and a half tsp of loose leaf: 212 Temp: 12 oz (CT) mug.

The real value of this tea for me is as a blank slate that I can build on. Adding my own flowers or spices or mixing with flavored honeybush teas in case I want something caffeinated.

My favorite basic black tea, hands-down. It's smooth and not bitter, and great for experimenting with adding my own flavorings.

I had been searching for the best way to make sweet iced tea. I had tried many brands and types of black tea to use. I FINALLY HIT THE JACKPOT! Ceylon Sonata by Adagio Tea is the best I have ever found. I use the overnight cold brew method and it results in the most delicious "floral-fruity symphony of flavors" that are naturally in this tea! And better yet Adagio is very consistent with their offerings. I highly recommend this tea! A must try.

A nice black tea, perfect for an early morning. Any black tea lover would be satisfied with this.

This is a classic black tea with a strong finish to get you moving in the morning. A little cream or sugar tones it down for a weekend or afternoon break time.

This is my go to every day tea. It is my first thing in the morning tea and sometimes my while watching tv tea. Brew to 190 for 3 min ads milk and sugar and it doesn’t get any better. Pinkies up.

Do you like earl grey but for some reason don't want the delicious bergamot flavor? Then this is for you.

This is my go-to morning tea. I brew as directed and drink it black. It has a nice fresh taste. If there is a baked goods occasion in the afternoon, I drink the decaf version usually with a little milk.

This is a light, relaxing black tea that's perfect for breakfast. It's not particularly strong, but it's a good morning tea.

A great breakfast tea, mellow flavor. Nothing crazy, no flavors. Just a good cup of tea.

This seemed like a fairly generic black tea to me, nothing terribly special about it. By itself brewed per directions at 212 degrees for 5 minutes it had a bit of astringency, so I found it to be more enjoyable with some sugar and heavy cream (out of milk), since that's how I have most of my black teas.

I was excited to try this one! I could smell the maltiness on the *steam* as it steeped! Beautiful dark color, rich, malty, nutty flavor. I didn't try it with milk, but I'm sure it'd pair well. Sugar brings out more of a sweet, chocolate-like flavor. I didn't pick up on the citrus notes that adagio mentioned, but my taste may not be that nuanced yet. All around a good black tea.
Steeped (1) 200F 3min, (2) 4min

This is a very plain, basic black tea with no bells and whistles, but it's great nevertheless. It's essentially the base for all my favorite flavored black teas, and it's good on its own! This doesn't taste too much like the Lipton orange pekoe. It seems to have more depth, and it's less "bright" if that makes sense. It's pretty hearty and bold, kind of tastes malty/like raisins a bit. A great tea!

Good tea, one that's like a classic iced tea but hot. It has a nice fullness to it, and is an easy morning tea.

Personally, not a huge fan of this tea, but I am also not a huge fan of most black teas in general

It's alright but not remarkable like Adagio's Assam Melody. I couldn't taste much complexity beyond the overall tang. I understand the appeal but it's not my bag.

Very nice Ceylon. Not bitter, nice and smooth with just enough astringency.

Love this tea how my mother used to make me tea when I was little. Just enough lemon for tartness and plenty of sugar!

Nice simple black tea, very little bitterness or astringency. It holds up pretty well to cream and sugar, and pairs nicely with pastries. A pantry staple.

Not a bad black tea! Has a bit of boldness but is certainly more mild than, say, a breakfast tea! Certainly one of the more delicate black teas I've had.

Tea for all occasions and all moods. You can drink just as is or add any flavor you'd like depending on mood. Very easy and works perfectly both hot and iced!

This is my favorite black tea of all time. Adagio has such good quality. It's not too strong, but still has the full flavor of black tea. It mixes well with other herbs too! I bought a pound of this tea after I had initially tried it because I liked it so much, but it looks like they don't sell in that amount anymore. Oh well!

I like this one. It's fresh and natural tasting. Different than just a normal black tea.

For a plain black tea this was very very nice, much more tasty than I normally find black tea to be.

Nice, straight forward black tea. Great for blending with additional ingredients for a custom flavored tea. I'd be curious how it does with cold brewing throughout the day.

This is the perfect everyday cup of black tea. I love this alone or have added my own inclusions. Can get multiple infusions.
