gunpowder
by adagio teas
(38 reviews)Gunpowder is a classic green tea from Zhejiang province, China. As the name implies, Gunpowder tea is made up of leaves hand-rolled into tiny pellets. These resemble Gunpowder, and give this tea its distinct name. Full-bodied cup with a hint of smokiness and a smooth mouthfeel. Blend Gunpowder tea with spearmint to create the famous 'Moroccan Mint' tea. Steep at 180°F for 2 minutes

This one is good! I don't like greens that are too vegetal/grassy in flavor, but this one is nice. It's not quite as smoky as an actual smoked tea, but it is maybe a little "toasty" in flavor. It's a really nice, smooth green tea!

I couldn't get past the aroma. Gunpowder is an appropriate name. Just not for me.

I didn't smell much from the dry tea. 2 min @ 160. I was overwhelmed with my first sip, extremely floral. It was so strongly floral that I powered through to try a second steep, hoping for improvement. 2 min @ 160 again. Still very floral, but a hint of greens this time. I love the floral of jasmine tea, but the gunpowder wasn't enjoyable. I'm disappointed because I typically enjoy green tea. I'll try it again if it's in another CommuniTEA box.

Best thing that I can say about nice goldencolor to the tea. Not a big fan of this tea.

I love the smokiness of this tea and it's just so relaxing to watch it unfurl as it brews. Just lovely paired with mint for Moroccan Mint tea. One of my favorites!

Got this in my CommuniTea box. I loved the smoky taste, and my first thought was, "This would go good with rooibos." And boy was I right. I went and made my very first blend.

Love this green tea! The little balls are fun to watch unfurl, and the taste is smooth with a hint of smokiness. There is no bitter, grassiness, or vegetal flavor. It is good plain, or with a drop of honey. Resteeps well, too.

Light and nonoffensive. I was expecting more out of it. Didn't get the smokiness other people say they tasted. It was good, but to me not as great as everyone says it is. I've had other green teas that I think are much better, like the Jasmine Pearls and kukicha.

I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this tea but I was pleasantly surprised that I did enjoy it. It was full of flavor and the aroma was wonderful

My every day go to cup of tea. You can steep it colder and shorter so it stays sweeter and less astringent, or longer and hotter so it's stronger with caffeine and stronger tasting, more astringent and a little smokey almost. Nothing like lapsang souchong but, overall, a wonderful pleasant and economical green tea.

Pretty good. Not normally a green tea drinker, but this is pretty good. Definitely a safe option for anybody looking for a good green

Not terrible but the smokiness is a little subdued. It's not my favorite by even the loosest definition but it's absolutely good for multiple steeps.

I finally got a chance to try this tea by itself and learn a bit about it's flavor. I'm more used to flavored, sweet, or fruity teas, so I picked out the smokey notes in this tea right away - completely different to what I'm used to. Though it's nowhere near the lapsang tea I've tried before in terms of 'smokiness'; it's noticeable but it's not like I licked a piece of charcoal. I do also notice the earthy/grassiness, but again, I don't find it to be overwhelming. Would I drink this on it's own again? Probably not, I do still prefer flavored teas. But I wouldn't turn down a cuppa if someone offered.

A nice standard gunpowder, it was tasty and fresh, not too strong on the smoky flavor, which is exactly what I like.

This is a lovely, balanced, smooth green tea! I've disliked gunpowder green tea in the past and this changed my mind--definitely buying more!

Smooth green tea, deliciously basic; don't oversteep. It tastes fresh and crisp - I could drink it every day, all day.

Great green tea taste. I can see this as a base to mix some of my herbal teas when I want to get a kick of caffine.

My favorite gunpowder to date! Just the right amount of smokiness balanced with the vegetal notes makes this tea punchy without forgetting its a green tea at heart.

A very strong green tea flavor, this has a pleasant irony aftertaste, but that just might be the way I brewed it.

Beautiful tea. Love the slight smokiness and full bodied green tea taste! My favorite!

This is a good tea and isn't bitter if steeped correctly. Didn't leave a bitter taste on my tongue. Strong smell for a green . I liked the flavor which came out to be like a dark leafy green vegetable.

A really straight forward gunpowder tea. Vegetal and a little smoky. Very high quality
