jin kong que
by masters teas
(10 reviews)Jin Kong Que is a remarkable tea handmade in the Yunnan Province of China. It has a rare ability to balance bold flavor without giving off bitterness. Its name, which translates to Golden Peacock, is as flashy as its namesake with fairly large, very golden leaves and leaf buds. The liquor does not disappoint as it boasts intricate notes of honey, toastiness, cocoa, and roasted sweet potato.

This is my first single origin black tea, I think. So I'm probably not doing this tea justice in my review. Just a disclaimer. 😁 I got this one in a mystery box.
It's quite malty and not bitter at all, which makes it very enjoyable! I had it with oak milk, so that might have covered some of the notes. I only get honey.

Very smooth roasty and toasty flavor. Relaxing and just very enjoyable cup of tea. I prefer this one hot, but the taste would be suitable for cold-brewing I'm sure. Lovely Tea!

I truly wish that I had a better way to describe the flavor and scent profiles of this tea. The only thing I can think of is "nice, clean, cozy, and toasty." There is no astringency or bitterness to be found yet you still get that bold black tea punch. Even after getting distracted and having it cool to lukewarm, it was still oh so good. It definitely gives me that high quality feel.
If I didn't have to limit my daily caffeine intake, I'd try for a second brewing. I might have to get a sample bag to keep as a nice caffeinated treat.

A pretty tea that is light and layered with no bitterness. A pleasant and smooth cup of black tea. 3 min at 212 degrees

Delicious! I've never tried a tea from Yunnan I didn't like. This one is special. Brewed at 5 min/195, it is a heavenly, malty aroma. The flavor is malt and honey and that charcteristic Yunnun taste. I will be buying more of this!

I've never had a black tea like this, it is very subtle and almost close to an oolong. I really enjoyed it

Yunnan origin black teas are among my favorites, and this tea does not disappoint. There is a richness to the almost red liquor of this tea with a fairly complex flavor profile. If you've never sipped Yunnan blacks, this one is well worth trying!

This is a mild tasting toasty black tea with no bitterness. It holds up well to a second steep. I steeped at 200 degrees for 3 minutes each time.
