Dong Fang Hong ("Eastern Beauty Red") is a new style of Hong Cha ("red tea" aka "black tea" in the West) that combines oolong and red tea processing methods. Our partners in Doi Mae Salong produced this tea using the Qingxin cultivar for its intense aromatic potential. Made from tender early spring sprouts, Dong Fang Hong has amazing notes of nectar, rose and orange blossom honey with an elegant tannin structure and extensive brewing patience. As you work through your infusions note the flavor of Cinnamomum verum begin to develop and a pleasant lozenge like mouthfeel. This year the bushes were stressed by drought which inspires a special wintergreen "minty" note. Our Founder and Tea Buyer Joshua joined the harvest firsthand in Northern Thailand.
